Anton Von Stefan
May 10th, 1992. Written shortly after mother's home-coming from the first stroke in June 1991.
WHAT IS A MOTHER ?
A mother is not a person we choose.
They choose to have us.
Through the unselfish love,
That was given to a man whom we call dad,
A child is born.
Out of that labour of love,
A bond is formed between mother and child.
Although not often apparent,
A mother would easily lay down her life,
For the babe that's born.
Our nurse, our guardian, our teacher,
The person that observes our every move,
As we crawl and stumble through those early days,
Days that pass so quickly,
From the safety of the cradle.
As the child grows,
That bond between mother and child holds fast.
It causes anguish and concern,
As the child enters the uncertain years of our teens.
Again the teacher, our guide, and our ever loving parent.
She is the one we turn to,
When we bruise our knee or tear our clothes.
She is the one who comforts us when we hurt,
Mends us when we bleed,
And kisses us when we cry.
A mother is also the one that instills the drive,
That will carry us through life,
As she pushes us forward,
To attain goals and dreams that passed her by,
As she gave her best for her child.
As the young adult enters the mainstream of life,
She is the one that cries when we leave,
The warm house that has been our home,
As we forge our own paths,
In the lives we have been given.
Our mothers are also the ones,
That feel the greatest joy,
As we accomplish our triumphs.
As our goals are attained,
It is our mother that is truly proud.
The satisfaction, the delight within their hearts,
Is a feeling of pleasure that only a mother can experience,
As they see their young born transform into an adult.
That good looking grown up is still their glorious child.
Content, rewarded, they can say, “The job's well done.”
Created through a mother's love,
In gratitude for everything you've given us, “Thanks.
We owe you all that we are....and, we love you!”
